Network and Systems Engineer - Bay Area

The Role:

You can hit the ground running with strong technical, diagnostic and communications skills. You want to grow and to mentor your team-mates. Unlike most MSPs, we provide engineering services to our clients primarily onsite which means that you’ll need to be willing to work at client sites as well as our office in San Mateo. You’ll also only work exclusively with a small portfolio of clients. You are willing to pitch in with helpdesk personnel, but your primary role will be building and supporting network and server solutions. You are comfortable writing quality status reports and technology audits on schedule.

 The work is varied and challenging – at one client you might be the only technical person on campus, while at others you might be part of a team that includes school IT personnel, Knowing Technologies helpdesk staff and our team of instructional technology coaches.

You’ll design, deploy and maintain the following technologies for our client schools: 

  • Wired and wireless networks and firewalls, particularly Cisco and Meraki
  • Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
  • VMware and Hyper-V virtual environments
  • SAN storage solutions
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery solutions
  • SaaS systems including O365 and Google Apps.

Your expertise with these technologies will help us build strong relationships with our clients. You will often be our primary contact point with clients so should be adept at interfacing with non-technical people. You should be comfortable writing a technical audit and also describing its contents to non-technical people in a way that puts them at ease. You’ll also be a mentor our “Engineers in Training”. The EIT team is our front-line helpdesk team, and we are passionate about developing their talent and expertise.

Your skills and qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a network engineer role.
  • CCNA or CCNP certifications are a plus.
  • High level of diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in the RF and IP realms.
  • High level of experience in virtualized server environments with shared storage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Prior MSP experience and/or prior school experience a plus.
